INTRODUCTION
With the aim of uplifting this landlocked region, a visionary local cleric, Late Hojjat ul Islam Wal Muslimeen Sheikh Mohammad Mufeed (r.a), laid the foundation of the first socio-religious organization of the region—Jamiat ul Ulama Isna Asharia Kargil (JUIAKL)—in 1954. Since its inception, the organization has tirelessly worked for the upliftment and development of the district in all walks of life. It has consistently voiced the needs of the region, advocating for the opening of the Zojila Tunnel and establishing civil air services.
