Kargil Celebrates the Birth Anniversary of Imam Mahdi (PBUH) with Religious Zeal
Kargil, Ladakh – February 14, 2025
The birth anniversary of the Twelfth and last Shia Imam, Imam Mahdi (PBUH), was celebrated with immense religious enthusiasm and devotion in Kargil, Ladakh. The event, organized by Jamiatul Ulama Isna Ashria Kargil Ladakh, was held at the Isna Asharia Campus Kargil and witnessed a large gathering of people from across the district.
Imam Mahdi (PBUH), born on the 15th day of the month of Sha’ban on the lunar calendar approximately 1,200 years ago, is revered by Shia Muslims as the awaited savior who will bring peace and justice to the world. His birth anniversary is a significant occasion for the Shia community, marked by prayers, reflections, and communal harmony.
The program commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by Qasida presentations by students of Hawza e Elmiyah, JAMES, and Project Care, as well as renowned Qasida khwans of Kargil. Speakers at the event elaborated on the philosophy of Shab e Baraat and Shab e Nama e Shabaan, the Occultation of Imam Mahdi (PBUH), and the significance of his awaited reappearance. They also highlighted the teachings of Imam Mahdi (PBUH) and the importance of preparing for the Day of Judgment.
The Chief Guest of the occasion, President JUIAK Ladakh, Hojjatul Islam Wal Muslimeen Sheikh Nazir Mehdi Mohammadi, emphasized the need for unity and collective efforts for the prosperity of the district. He urged the people of Kargil to come together on a single platform to work towards communal harmony and development.
He also elaborated on the philosophy of the Occultation of Imam Mahdi (PBUH) and called upon the community to follow the path of Islam, emphasizing peace, unity, and communal harmony. He reminded the audience of the Shia belief in the eventual reappearance of Imam Mahdi (PBUH), who will establish justice and peace in the world.
Member of Parliament (MP) Ladakh, Haji Hanifa Jan and Director Youth Service and Sports Tahir Hussain Zubdavi graced the event as the Guest of Honor. Haji Haneefa Jan in his speech praised the efforts of JUIAK Ladakh in promoting religious teachings, education, health, and disaster management in the region. He also expressed gratitude to the former religious leaders of Kargil, including Sheikh Ahmad Mohammadi, Sheikh Musa Shariefi, Sheikh Toha Baroovi, and Sheikh Hassan Waizi, for their guidance and contributions to society.
In a significant announcement, Haji Hanifa Jan shared that the issue of the AN-32 Courier Service from Jammu to Kargil has been resolved, and the service will soon be reinstated, ensuring better connectivity for the region.
The event was beautifully anchored by Sheikh Mohsin Ali, who ensured the smooth flow of the program. The celebration concluded with prayers for the well-being of humanity and the swift reappearance of Imam Mahdi (PBUH).
Shia Muslims worldwide await the re-emergence of Imam Mahdi (PBUH) with great anticipation, believing that his return will herald an era of peace and justice. The event in Kargil served as a reminder of this profound belief and the importance of unity and faith in these challenging times.
